ISCC – International Sustainability and Carbon Certification is a globally applicable sustainability certification system covering all types of agricultural and forestry biomass, biogenic wastes and residues , non-biological renewable materials and recycled carbon-based materials.

ISCC certification systems are applicable to all elements of supply chains and across sectors and markets, including energy, food, feed and industrial applications .

ISCC is a standards-setting organization responsible for developing, overseeing, reviewing and continually improving ISCC certification systems >. ISCC uses different certification systems for different markets. These systems are ISCC EU, ISCC PLUS.

ISCC EU is a certification system demonstrating compliance with legal requirements for sustainability and greenhouse gas emission reduction criteria of the Renewable Energy Directive (< strong>EC) 2018/2012 (often referred to as RED II)

ISCC PLUS certification applies to bioeconomy and circular economy for food, feed, chemicals, industrial applications (e.g. plastics or packaging) and energy from renewable sources used outside the European Union (i.e. Markets that are not regulated by RED II).

*Evaluative remote audit - preliminary activities carried out by the Contractor, including a preliminary check and evaluation of the Customer's documentation and other information in relation to the requirements of the current certification system ISCC< /strong> as a biomass producer, in accordance with Directive 2009/28/EC of Parliament and of the Council of 23.04.2009 (2009/28/EC), for the purpose of updating documentation of the Customer.

**Certification audit - activities carried out by the Contractor, including a detailed check and assessment of the Customer's documentation and other information and the Customer's actual compliance with the requirements of the current certification system ISCC< /strong>.

Sustainable biomass examples would be:

  • Oils of vegetable origin,
  • Food waste (waste cooking oil, animal fats, soap stocks and fatty acids, sunflower husks),
  • Agricultural waste (cobs, straw)
  • Wood production waste (chips, sawdust)
  • Pulp and paper waste (tall oil)
  • Recycling of plastics and other non-biological waste (pyrolysis oil, production of plastics from recycling products)
